COMMUNITY PROJECTS

MONTHLY OUTREACH PROGRAMMES

We collect donations of perishables and non perishables groceries, clothes, stationery and other assets and supply the NPOs. In addition we do about three major outreaches per month targeting the poorest of poor and NPOs. Our outreach programmes cater for about 300 – 800 people and we are focused to making a sustainable difference as and when we are able to raise resources to meet the need, including hospital and prison ministry.

A GIFT FOR LIFE

We solicit the assistance to provide stationery, library books, school uniforms and any miscellaneous items pertaining to schooling, excluding textbooks. We distribute these items amongst the poorest schools in S.A. Representatives of 1in1out ensure receipt of these items by the students. These items are collected between January and February.

OPERATION FUDUMEZA (WARM UP)

This is our annual winter warm up drive. In this project, we call on people to donate blankets, winter woollies thing or sponsor a blanket. Representatives of 1 in 1 out and the staff of the organization involved distribute these items to charities recommended either by 1in1out or by organisation’s choice of charity. This operation is in March/April for distribution in June.

KHANYISA IMPILO (LIGHT UP A LIFE)

This is a festive season celebration. We ask people to donate gifts, toys and clothing to brighten up the life of the unfortunate who do not receive even a card for this season of festivity. This festive operation takes place in November for distribution in December.

DISASTER RELIEF DRIVE

Stocks of non-perishable foods, clothing and blankets are held in house for emergencies such as disasters, floods, fires and unforeseen crises. We also have an emergency contingency plan in place to provide relief for a community or a charitable organization that find themselves in a crisis.

‘GIVE US OUR DAILY BREAD’

We have had several requests from schools to provide lunch for children that come from poorer homes. One school principal pointed out that their education committee has established that many children lose concentration during the classes especially after first break (+/- 10h30) only the poor are hungry and the hungry are poor. Hunger leads to poor performance. Resulting in failure at schools, then later into uneducated, unskilled and unemployable adults, and the cycle goes on. I know of children lining up in larger crowds, with a cry “Give us this day our daily bread” in some ‘underprivileged’ schools.

BREAK THROUGH CENTER

We are in the process of setting up a multimillion rand complex, BreakThrough Centre. This is a Skills & Entrepreneur Centre to uplift the communities of Freedom Park, Naturena and surrounding areas

MISSION

Through skills development and job creation, empower the unemployed and the destitute homeless to become a part of functional society.

PRIORITY ISSUES

  1. Build a viable and sustainable upliftment and restoration solution.
  2. Communicate to all the stakeholders the value drivers of the upliftment and the loss drivers of allowing the status quo to remain.

OPERATING PHILOSOPHIES

Our approach is that, in recognising what has taken place in the past, we have to wage war on poverty, unemployment & crime. We have to win because the consequences of anarchy are too terrible to comprehend.

We operate with a “CAN DO” attitude with no excuses accepted. This holistic strategy is to build local inner city communities which cater for the needs of that unique community. This cohesion develops the value and self worth of the community and thereby enhances their lifestyle. The message herein will then be worth protecting and defending provided it meets the “True” community needs.

A whole new dynamic of belonging to “our community” will ensure that this area will become a self-sustaining prosperous community with a “No Go’ crime free area.

PROJECT PLANNING & EXECUTION

The implementation of the restoration model will become the role model for other Southern African communities.

What is required is vision, leadership, commitment, professionalism and expertise using recognised and effective processes for project management and execution.

“Like slavery and apartheid, poverty is not natural it is man made it can be overcome and eradicated by the actions of human beings.” Nelson Mandela

One of the critical success factors is the support and buy-in of the local communities by people like our directorship are dedicated to develop upliftment programmes through working in an environment where they have built trusting relationships with the communities during the past decade.

Mandela said, “Government cannot by itself meet these socio-economic challenges. The private sector, non-governmental organisations and ordinary people have to make their contribution.” Transforming South Africa and addressing the legacy of extreme inequalities that defines our country’s past is a challenging process. It involves overhauling every aspect of our society. There are millions of South Africans who still live in contexts of extreme deprivation and adversity. Education and skills development is the cornerstone of a prosperous nation and one of the tools to lift people out of poverty and bolster socio-economic inclusion. Education is a broad and complex field with numerous potential entry points for the corporate and other investors.

‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’ Jesus Christ
