We had a group of volunteers from Canada and UK that spent the week building a crèche for Mt Olive in Lahare. We arranged for this team to join us on an outreach at Lindaleni Settlement. It rained the previous day. The main road that leads to settlement was flooded.  We had to park our vehicles at the entrance. Our guests skipped their lunch and sponsored the meals that they so joyfully served the community. We had a group of African dancers that thrilled our guest with their items. They not only served them but also joined them for lunch. Eating and having fun with them. The residents then took the team to their houses. It was interesting for our guests to see how the other world live.

Like two years ago Keith went to the local fresh produce stall in the settlement, bought all the fruit, and handed this out to the community. This man is such a blessing every time he come to SA Thank you Bill and your most wonderful team. We love you all for the contribution you make to touch the lives of so many when you come to SA.

Thanks to PG Glass of brightening up the lives of the children at Lulamani Day Care Centre in Ivory Park during Easter. Each child was given an Easter school bag and a box of crayons. The kids had so much fun colouring their bags. We then served lunch and gave the some Easter goodies.

Instead of sending Easter greetings to their customers PG Glass used to the funds to such a meaningful way.

We had another group form UK and again this group skipped their normal lunch and funded lunch for the entire dumping site residents. What a different meal to the one they usually eat. There was enough food for seconds and some even brought containers to take home for supper. Our guests took the blankets and hampers of winter woolies and went from door to door.

There was not a dry eye. Our guests were speechless. One comments “there was pigs living in the yard next to their houses”, they could believe how happy that children were and the adults so peacefully living under such appalling living condition. I still get emails from this group and three students wants to come and work with in their GAP year. We are busy with the arrangements. Makes you think does it?

Directions to the Dumping site:

Take Hendrik Potgieter Rd drive towards Talton passing Makro on the right and Clearwater mall on the left . At the Talton/Pretoria/Krugersdorp intersection Turn left into R28 towards Krugersdorp R28 is also Paatdekraal Road keep on this road. You will pass Keywest Shopping Mall on the right. Once you pass this Mall keep left / the road will split , keep on the left and keep on the R28 driving towards Randfontein. Pass MacDonald’s on the Left , go under the bridge and keep right. Turn Right into Randfontein , this should be  Windsor Road. Keep on this road turn , about 15 min as you approach Randfontein turn right into the city centre. Pass all the traffic lights , you will see a police station on the left and directly opposite will be Govt Bldgs. After the police station watch out for the sign Piet Uys Rd on the left  and then the a little sign on the left that reads Dumping Site. Follow this road until you reach destination. The outreach ends @ 1pm.

Many of volunteers bring their kids (it is safe). Give them a chance to learn life lessons that no school could teach them.

Only eternity will reveal how many children’s lives you helped change by giving the greatest gift of education. Education and skills development is greatest need in our country. This year we are focusing on the Duduza tornado hit area and some of the kids we help in Gauteng. After our three outreach programmes last year with these people, we will be concentrating to see how much we can help in this are over the first quarter of 2012. We have been working with the Red Cross. I am in contact with the chairperson person of the Duduza teacher’s forum. Our target for Duduza is 700 children. If we get a good response, we will then see how many children we can help in Gauteng.

Once I know how much funding we will receive from the disaster funding, I will arrange a meeting with the chairperson of School principal forum in Duduza to get the details of the children and do the necessary. I spoke to him last week and he was delighted that we that we are considering doing something for this disaster hit region in terms of their school needs. He says that some of the kids were helped with school bags and some stationery immediately after the tornado in October last year by the government. He says there is so much need and would give me any assistance to identify the most needy children affect by the disaster.

Included in the school starter pack are School shirt, pants/skirt, socks, shoe, bag and some basic stationery. The average cost is R650 per pack.
